Manta scultural lamp - Leonardo Criolani

The Manta lamp is inspired by the natural forms of its marine namesake. A creature defined by graceful, soft, and elegant movements, and by uncommon shapes.

In this project, I wanted to faithfully capture the manta’s form. To achieve this, I created curves and folds designed to convey movement and offer new perceptions from different angles.

Viewed from the front, it recalls the movement of the manta’s fins. However, as the perspective changes, the lamellar structure is designed to evoke the gills typical of this species.

The material chosen for this project is matte white acrylic. I initially tested transparent material, but it did not fully enhance the shapes. In contrast, this color—with its slight transparency and a white tone that softens the forms—allows light to pass through the elements, creating shadows that further accentuate the curves and the sense of lightness I intended to represent.
